OpenID anyone?
OK, show of hands? Who uses OpenID? Anyone? If so, what do you think?

I hate managing usernames and passwords all over the place, and I know it's starting to get fairly widespread support (on LJ, por ejemplo). Just curious whether it's worth bothering with right away on a new site.

I keep intending to look into it, but i have yet to find an application where i needed one so im sure when that comes up i will.

at work during a forward looking planning meeting, we have batted around the idea of becoming a open-id node, but all in all, there was no great clamoring of support(none in opposition either)

When lj first started doing it as i recall aol was one fo the few openid hosts, and i could not stand giving them my identity ;-D

All in all its just a glorified radius system that relies on the authority of the id host, so ultimately it will do very little to really authenticate people unless they start implementing trust relationships.

Yeah, all the response I've seen about it so far is lukewarm. It seems like a cool thing to support and I'm hoping someone out there is enthusiastic about it and I'm just missing it.

IF people were making good use of it, I'd see it as a big must. Security and identity protection aspects aside, the business interest is really in making it easy to get an account, so that someone doesn't need yet another u/p pair to keep track of and crosslink to all their other online identities (e.g. if we integrate with sites like Twitter or Flickr). Bah.

[info]flooey messed around with it for commenting to my lj, but it does not really seem all that useful.

Just for LiveJournal

The only thing i use OpenID for is LiveJournal. It seemed like a good idea at inception, but since there is no dominant controlling force, each site seeks to be THE ONE that controls the info, thus rendering it basically useless. At least... that I have ever seen.
